  • Air and EEE PC

The left, the $1799 Macbook Air. The Right, my $283 EEE PC. My eeePC is lighter and less flashy, Although, you can't really tell that the EEE PC screen is smaller b/c there's a black border and the speakers are on the sides. I'm very happy with this purchase. The *only* issue I have is that the battery life leaves much to be desired. I feel like there's only about an hour of juice in the battery.

I also installed some applications and am going through the motions of uploading the picture with the blog. It's a bit cumbersome, since I'm not familiar with my picture hosting service. I guess it will get better with time.

  • Logging the weekend...

On friday, I totally forgot that we had birthday drinks. GRR. Instead, made
plans with the the P Family. Viet food was great, and I remembered to order
the new dishes I learned about from DN and MH. Yay! At about 10:00 we left
the happy family and headed to play some poker. We lost the first round, but
we both ended up in the finals and took home the pot.

The next day was GS's Bridal shower. At 12:00 I made it to the shower. It
took me longer than it should have. I was taking guesses as t where 1598 2nd
avenue was. Yes yes.. it's on 2nd avenue, but I kept cutting across too
short, until the last turn, where I overshot it by 10 blocks. I had a great
time, and it was always nice seeing the gals again. I didn't really bother
to look for parking and just parked at the 1 hour meter in from of the shop.
I had to run out every hour to feed the meter. Grr Bloomberg!

The food was great and the cake was yummy. Makes me hungry agan just
thinking about it! The table I sat at was the over achiever table, who won
about half the prizes in Bridal Shower Bingo. Prizes, pictures, scrap books,
    and food.

At 4:00, I went off to Jersey and met up with JC's mom's side of the family.
They decided to celebrate on the 26th, which is also GT's Bridal Shower. I
was a little worried, since I didn't really want to miss anything important
that I was supposed to attend. Food in Jersey was no disappointment either,
I ate a storm. Yum YUM.

We considered making our social appointments: N, P, and L, in three
different places, but the drives and the food coma rendered us useless when
    we went home.

    And now the lazy Sunday.

  • Yet Another Email Testing

Apparently we need to bring passport sized pictures with us to Brazil. And
4x4 pictures with us to Bolivia. That's a HUGE picture of my face. I'm also
a little concerned with whether or not we're going to have enough room in
our passports for all the stamping.

  • Constantly Connected

I love this little machine. Is there something wrong with being connected all the time? I think it depends a lot on what you do. As all behaviors, it could fall into regressive, status, or progressive activities. If you spend your time just cruising the net, you're not necessarily learning anything or producing anything. I want JC to get his own eee PC, because I can see myself totally monopolizing the computer to write, surf, or otherwise chat with friends.

There's such a wealth of information on the net that you could get your second degree. At the same time, you could also fritter away your time heading to smut sites. I can totally see myelf spending enough time on this little thing to not really share.

JC needs his own eeepc. Perhaps that will be his Valentine's day present.

  • WHITEFACE

It was my first run of the season, and I did as well as can be expected. JC did GREAT!

What's noteworthy was how we ended up on the trip! Friday night was MH's surprise birthday party. While celebrating at about 10:00pm, we discover that MH and DN are going to be leaving straight after the festivities to go to Whiteface. Impulsive as we are, we wrapped up the birthday celebration and made it home by about midnight to pack for the slopes.

It was a blast! Sacrificing one night of sleep was worth heading up to Lake Placid. The conditions were awesome, and it was an easier drive than any of the Vermont locations. I will definitely need to go back again!

  • eee pc Surf

    I think its soo cute!

I can type much better on this device than on any of the other compact devices for my trip. eee will probably take some time to get used to, but it's so tiny! It fits into my purse, and has a full web browser. It comes with Open Office and some other Linux based applications. I've managed to get it to recognize my old nano ipod as an external drive so I can bump up its 2GB internal drive. I'm not sure what I'm really going to need the extra space for.

  • Cleaning House

In preparation for my trip, I'm going through all the food in our pantry. I thought it would be a great idea to make sure I eat everything left in my apartment before I leave. That *sounds* like a great idea. I woke up this morning, searched through, and found some Mac and Cheese - microwaveable instant mac and cheese. Yummy. The stuff that comes with the powder cheese?

I figure, since I have a whole bunch left, why not indulge? I opened up two packages of the macaroni and popped it into the microwave for 4.5 minutes. Yum. I then emptied two packages of cheese powder and started to mix. Magically, it started to solidify, and I started to gobble down the Mac and Cheese. about a third of the way through, I was about to shove my finger down my throat in efforts to get rid of the horrible syntheticness of what I just consumed...

    Another closed chapter.

Two years ago, I kept boots and books in my fridge. It was never plugged in, so it didn't matter. It was better not to run the fridge and waste electricity. The food in my cabinets consisted of oatmeal, instant noodles, and mac and cheese. All stuff I could whip up with some hot water.

Now, with my food routine including home cooked meals, those packages are now collecting dust. And also part of an older time of my life, where instant food was more important that real nourishment. In the past, I'd roll out of bed, with the smell of booze on my breath. I would have only enough energy to boil water. Voila! I had a meal.

I don't drink to all hours of the night anymore. I actually care what I ingest. And I sorta hate growing up.

  • Sick days

I have a few more weeks of work left, and I happen to be sick. Who would have guessed that I would use up my last sick days actually being sick! I made an appointment with the doctor for the both of us. Turns out JC and I keep passing the germies back and forth. We both got our antibiotics, but JC won't take his meds. If I get sick again, I'm going to kick his butt!
